The Caretaker
Written by Gareth Roberts (Although Stephen Moffat is also credited)
Synopis
The Doctor goes on an secret undercover mission at Coal Hill school, in orderto rid the world of the Skovox Blitzer. A deadly robot lured there by high levels of 'Artron emissions' and who has enough firepower to destroy the planet.' His clever disguise? What, didn't you read the title?
Review
Clara is finding it difficult balancing her life as a Time Travelling Companion and the girlfriend of Danny Pink. A man who always looks like he's on the verge of bursting into tears at any moment.
The Doctor, aware that she is dating someone and in a case of mistaken identity, believes it to be the Matt Smith look-alike teacher (if Matt Smith's Doctor was five foot six, stocky and a geek) and is angered when he discovers that it is in fact, ex solider Danny believing him to be nothing more than a P.E teacher.
The Doctor wearing a clever disguise. Bet you didn't recognize him. |
The Doctor has been hard at work (not like my caretaker then) planting devices around the school, hoping to lure the Skovox Blitzer, which resembles a radio controlled toy and doesn't look remotely capable of blowing up an entire planet, into a time vortex that will place him a billion years into the future. But Danny, stumbling upon the devices, inadvertently ruins the whole operation and the Skovox Blitzer is only placed 74 hours into the future instead. The Doctor now had just 3 days to complete his mission, but the deadly robot reappears ahead of time, right in the middle of Parent's Evening.
The Doctor wearing a clever disguise. Oh no sorry, that's the Skvovox Blitzer. |
There's some stuff about the Danny working out that the reason for the Time Lord's disdain towards him, is that he doesn't think that he is good enough for Clara and that's about it. We also meet up with Courtney who doesn't seem fazed by the fact that the caretaker is also time traveller.
As with so many of the recent Doctor Who series, the trailers tantalize us with images of a new monster, who really doesn't feature in the episode until near the end, with the odd appearances in between. We never fully get to grips with these new creations such as The Shakri, Abzorborloff, The Smilers and The Robots of Sherwood, to name but a few.
All in all, it was an an enjoyable episode, Oh, and Missy is back.

School caretakers are all aliens waiting for the right moment. And I was at a parents evening once when a monster arrived and scared a whole load of the teachers, but it turned out to be a pupil who had been expelled three times but still turned up because he liked them.
ReplyDeleteThey dont seem to be making the most of the monsters at present, everyone likes a monster. . . . well I say everyone some teachers dont as they tend to be rubbish at Maths (the monsters not the teachers)
Rob, our caretaker skulks around like he's trying to avoid the fact that we know he has dead bodies stored in his shed. The one before that was a woman who looked liked she'd been in jail and went by the name of Bulldog Harrison. Well that's what the other parents used to call her. And when i say other parents, i mean mater.
DeleteAccording to the Doctor, P.E teachers are also rubbish at maths.

DeleteI had PE teachers that taught math poorly, and history. I think that is all they would teach. I am enjoying the Doctors new catchphrase "Shut Up!" It seems to fit his Malcom Tucker light personality. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDavid, I have P.E teachers who don't even know how to teach P.E.
DeleteI keep expecting him to burst into a raging ball of cuss words, like Malcom Tucker every time he starts yelling.
Right - here I am upto date and ready to rock!
ReplyDeleteHaving just watched this episode tonight I have to say I have struggled with this series of Dr Who.
I don't know why exactly but there is something not quite right about this chap... Maybe it's the accent, or the stories I'm not sure, but I did like this episode.
Each one has been getting better in my opinion and I am intrigued by the paradise/afterlife bits. I'm guessing this is all building up to the big finale or christmas special, but here's hoping it all continues to build to big explosion-y filled send off.
Bumferry, I must admit that i'm not as excited by this series as i have been with previous ones and the storylines have been a bit weak, but it's early days yet. I wasn't expecting to like Capaldi's incarnation of the Doctor, but so far, i have enjoyed his performances.
DeleteBut most intriguing bit so far, has been Missy. So much attention for a woman who doesn't even spend a minute on screen. Looking forward to an explanation on the whole afterlife thing.
"Inadvertently," Ooh, get you! That dictionary was well worth stealing from WHSmiths.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually the first episode in which I've enjoyed Capaldi as the Doctor. I agree with Mr H, there is definitely something missing from this series, but each episode has been better than the last. Hope it continues. Already love Missy and she was only in it for about 2.5 seconds.
Yet another WHSmiths that we're banned from. Woman, keep your pilfering hands to yourself!
DeleteLook to the above for my answer to your comments. I'm getting repetitive strain injury in my typing finger and I am late for for the comfort of my bed.
