A-Z Of Doctor Who Monsters and Villains: File H-Homo Reptilia

FILE H

HOMO REPTILIA

Despite the name, this post is not about homosexual lizards but rather an ancient race of reptilian creatures that live beneath the ground today.
The different branches of Homo Reptilia are the Silurians, intelligent civilised beings and the original inhabitants of Earth and the Sea Devils, nicknamed this by both humans and Silurians.
In the brilliantly named 'DOCTOR WHO AND THE SILURIANS' (1970) and yes, I am being sarcastic, they appear to be brown or green skinned, scaley and with a red, glowing third eye at the top of their heads. This eye has multiple uses, a bit like a tool. It can open and close doors and locks, burn through walls and kill. This would have been quite scary, if whenever they used said eye it didn't look like they were having a fit of some sort.

The Silurians saw mankind as a threat to their species, especially as they had inhabited the planet long before man and still referred to humans as Apes.
In the also excellently named THE SEA DEVILS (1972), we encounter...well, the Sea Devils.
These are beings that although advanced and intelligent, remain mostly mute.
They might also look a bit more threatening if it wasn't for the string vests that they wore.

Sea Devil one, looking sad and tired.

Sea Devil two, looks like an arrogant snob.

In WARRIORS OF THE DEEP (boring title), both the Silurians and the Sea Devils team up in 2084 to attacked 'Sea Base 4' for no apparent reason.
They also use a massive glove puppet to break down foam walls and leave a trail of cheapness and rubbery havoc in their wake.

Walking into walls?
Can't invade underwater bases properly?
Should have gone to Specsavers.

With each branch of reptiles, there are a variety of appearances and so when the Doctor once again encounters the Silurians, both underground and in Wales in 2020 in THE HUNGRY EARTH & COLD BLOOD (2010) They appear to be much more human. Well...except for the green scales and whatnot.

Most of the Time, the Silurians and the Sea Devils are not in fact evil and only kill to defend themselves against Mankind and the military. Both U.N.I.T (UNified Intelligence Taskforce) and the royal Navy, have tried to launch attacks on the two different branches of Homo Reptilia. A peace conference of sorts, once took place in 2020 but failed because a human killed a Silurian with a Taser.

  1. I think its Homo-Sapiens that the Homo Reptilia sort of links with Master Meglos although they might still be homosexual lizards. . . . I dont know a lot about lizards but I do know frogs have about as dodgy a sex life as life can have, and most of them would be arrested if it was not for the slight issue of them being frogs. Apparently frogs can not be charged with any crime whatsoever. This might be a useful point if you plan to take over the world as an army of frogs would confuse the legal system. Not sure discipline is good with frogs just look at the sort of sex lives they lead. AH I appear to have arrived where I started.

Keep up the good work and remember be nice to mum and she might let you keep frogs. hAH AHHAH AH hahah ahah ah aha hah ahah ah ah ahah ah ah ah ah ah ah ahha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hah ah a hah HA HA HA .

    1. Rob, I'm not sure I want frogs if they have a dubious life of coitus. I'd rather not deal with them and their 'activities.' Which means I don't have to be nice to mater at all. Excellent.

  2. The loss of the eye thingy made them a little more attractive...at least for Vastra and Jenny sake.

    1. I think that if green, scaly, reptilian females are what people find attractive then the loss of the 3rd eye was probably a good thing.
